Gainesville has a subtropical climate with mild winters and hot summers. Winter average highs are in the 50s, with lows in the 30s, although colder and warmer periods occur. Spring is pleasant with highs in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 40s and 50s, although March is the wettest month of the year on average.
 
Summer can be oppressive with average highs reaching the low 90s combined with humidity can put heat indexes into the 100s. Fall has temperatures like spring but with much less humidity.
